Why Duke Health as a New Graduate

When did you join Duke Health?

I started as a COVID screener/PPE observer/patient attendant safety aide with us in March of 2020 while I was still in nursing school. I later transitioned to a registered nurse role in June 2021 after graduating from Duke in May 2021.

What attracted you to apply to Duke Health upon graduation?

There were several reasons I applied to Duke. It actually ended being the only place I applied to as a new grad. Duke is really the only place I could see myself starting my nursing career at.

First of all, I am comfortable here at Duke and this was one of the most important aspects when I was looking. I was comfortable enough at Duke to challenge myself and start establishing my newly formed career goals that recently had changed in nursing school.

Lastly, Duke’s focus on innovation was the ultimate driving force for my decision to apply here. I think it’d be extremely difficult for any other healthcare system to compete with the amount of programs and resources that Duke offers to support innovation, and I really just didn’t want to miss out on any of those opportunities.
